Flying an ILS ApproachFlying an ILS ApproachThe <strong>EXP5000</strong> is designed to take full advantage of the auto transitioncapability of the Navigator systems for flying a GPS flight plan endingin an ILS approach. In this case, the horizontal deviation indicator(HDI) and vertical deviation indicator (VDI) windows are displayed onthe ADI.The CDI course is automatically set to the inbound localizer courseresulting in a hands-free transition.As long as you select a localizer or ILS via the <strong>EXP5000</strong> Nav button,the HDI and VDI will automatically display when applicable localizerand glideslope signals are received. No pilot action is required.<strong>Avidyne</strong> recommends that you set the inbound course using the<strong>EXP5000</strong> Course Set knob to serve as reference during the localizerintercept and tracking. This is automatic if the Navigator system hasbeen set to Autoslew.
