He presented amood board combining a fresh, contemporary lookwith a relaxed Mediterranean appeal.Expanses of white are interspersed with splashesof turquoise, indigo and aquamarine, echoing thehues guests can see through the windows. There areantiques as well as specially commissioned artworkson the walls.Jouannet embraced both projects with equalgusto. “I do completely different work for everybody,”he says. “Make sure that it’s something personal.”Janna Rapaport, the designer who createdthe look for our newest Peruvian hotel, PalacioNazarenas in Cuzco, says: “I made the project quitecomplicated for myself but I wouldn’t have had itany other way—it was wonderful.” In discussion withthe local team she came up with a wholly originalconcept for the hotel, which was converted froma former palace and convent. “I focused on thetransitional period when the Spanish came to Peru.Artistically it was a Renaissance moment when two35
