DIRECTOR OF FAITH AND MISSION Father Peter Varengo- Book publication. The Academy community warmly congratulate Father Peter Varengo on the publication of his book “Seed Among the Vines”. Father Peter generously supports the Academy community by leading our Tuesday morning Masses and other significant Mass celebrations throughout the year. Mary MacKillop Heriatage Centre Weekend Opening. Usually only opened on Monday to Friday 10am-4pm the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre will be open this weekend. A guided Mary MacKillop walking tour around East Melbourne will be conducted at 11:00am. The centre is ‘just around the corner’ from the Academy houses a museum presenting the life and work of Saint Mary MacKillop. Weekend openings for the remainder of the year: Saturday 20 th October and Saturday 24 th November. http://www.mmhc.org.au/ 362 Albert Street, East Melbourne Women of Note I draw your attention to the “Women of Note” concert information flyer included at the end of this newsletter. The concert will be held at the Academy on Saturday 27 th October at 2:00pm. In return for using the Academy as the venue the ‘Women of Note’ choir from Bendigo are donating funds raised to our fund raising efforts. Also performing at the concert is one of Australia’s premier singer /songwriters, Maria Forde. Drawing on her Irish heritage Maria has performed at music festivals both in Australia and internationally. Tickets are available at the door and all are welcome. FROM THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Ms Karen Fogarty, Director of Faith and Mission Text Book Buy Back. As we begin term four I wish to make both students and parents aware that the Religious Education Department has decided to conduct a textbook buyback of the To Know Worship and Love texts for Year 7 to 10. Parents will be allocated a credit on their school fees for 2013. No action needs to be taken at the moment however there will be further information later in the year. Texts that are in good condition with no graffiti, torn pages etc will be purchased. Also please note that a limited number of Year 12 textbooks have been purchased from students this week. Given they are not returning this year they have been paid directly in cash. If you would like to confirm if your daughter sold her textbook to the school please feel free to email or call me. The winner of the Term 3 National Year of Reading Competition is still being decided and will be announced at a later date. Sae McCurry of Year 10 has created her own anthology of short stories written by students at the Academy. This has been published and is available for perusal in the Fiction Library.
