2.4 Mixed C<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong>sIn order to provide greater capability of process-specific risk analysis and allocati<strong>on</strong> of processsignals to specific Safety Integrity Level, the FSC system offers the facility of mixed c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong>.The mixed c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> "redundant CP - redundant I/O" / "redundant CP - single I/O)" allowprocessing signals of the Safety Integrity Level up to and including SIL 3.2.5 Possible Wiring Alternatives for Safety Integrity Level SIL 1 to SIL 32.5.1 InputsFor SIL 3 with redundant inputs, the input modules of both channels shall be used. Safety-relatedprocess variables shall be read from both busses.If fail-safe sensors are used for SIL 3 with single I/O, <strong>on</strong>e c<strong>on</strong>troller input for each safety-relatedprocess signal is sufficient. Programming and c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> of inputs for n<strong>on</strong> fail-safe sensors isexplained in detail in the Appendix C "Safety-Related Inputs with N<strong>on</strong>-Fail-Safe Sensors" of thecurrent FSC Software Manual.2.5.2 OutputsThe shutdown circuits in safety-related applicati<strong>on</strong>s shall always take the form of dualindependent circuits.
