Native Americans were not asthreatened with <strong>the</strong> French because <strong>the</strong>y didn't require as much l<strong>and</strong> for cropsas <strong>the</strong> English had. Native Americans hoped helping <strong>the</strong> French would protectmore <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir l<strong>and</strong>. Later when <strong>the</strong> French lost control <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir colony to <strong>the</strong>British, <strong>the</strong> Native Americans lost <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y had found to protect.Spanish ColoniesSpanish Colonists explored <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn <strong>and</strong> South Western parts <strong>of</strong> NorthAmerica in <strong>the</strong>ir search for gold. Saint Augustine (in today's Florida) <strong>and</strong> SantaFe (in today's <strong>New</strong> Mexico) were established as indentured servants whereNative Americans worked to a pr<strong>of</strong>it for <strong>the</strong> Spanish.
