At <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> wedeliver a broad and balanced curriculum designed to provide children with a range ofopportunities to discover and develop their talents.Basic SkillsOur school believes that the acquisition of basic skills (literacy and numeracy) is essential foreach child to fulfil their potential. Consequently, we allocate a high proportion of time to Englishand mathematics.Physical Education (PE)The school provides a range of sporting opportunities across the academic year for all children.There are two hours of PE in school each week. Children in year 6 attend swimming lessons atHorwich Leisure Centre.Religious Education (RE)R.E. is part of the curriculum at <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> and it follows the agreed diocesansyllabus. There is an act of collective worship for every day of the week. Both of theseopportunities provide children with a deeper appreciation of the many world faiths.Home LearningChildren will be expected to complete home learning every day. This may include: reading,spelling, quick recall of times tables, completion of class work, research and revision.Voluntary Reading SchemeOur school participates in theVolunteer Reading Scheme. This is acharity which provides 1:1 readingsupport for children. In addition tothis there are a number of volunteerswho provide support for readingdevelopment.Educational VisitsAt <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> it is important that our pupil’s take part in educational visitswhich give them a wide range of visits which are linked to their learning within the curriculum.Each class has at least one visit or visitor every half term. Parents will be asked to make avoluntary contribution towards the cost of the visits.6
