Philosophy 4 ChildrenWe use Philosophy 4 Children as part of our curriculum from Year 1 through to Year 6.Philosophical discussions help to develop social skills, thinking skills and many other personalqualities.School ClubsThere are a variety of clubs at Lord Street Primary School: sports teams, a school choir, art andcraft clubs, and lunch time clubs. Each year children fromYear 5 and 6 attend a four day school residential.MusicOur children are taught by a specialist music teacherfrom nursery through to Year 4.School BankEvery Monday our school bank is open to encouragechildren to learn the skills of financial management assoon as possible. The school bank operates through theRoyal Bank of Scotland.Theme DaysEach half term every class has a theme day. Pastoral CareSchool Health“Behaviour in classrooms is good and contributes to creating good relationships” - Ofsted 2010Our school nurse is a registered nurse withspecialised training and experience in childhealth. The role of the nurse is to encouragehigh standards of health and hygiene so thateach child is able to gain the full benefit fromtheir education.We regret that staff cannot acceptresponsibility for administering medication.However, we will work with parents toprovide alternative arrangements whereverpossible.Please ensure that school have currentcontact details so that in the event of anemergency we can contact you immediately.Sex and Relationship Education is taughtthroughout Key Stage 2. However, the schoolnurse, in conjunction with the Year 6 teacher,will teach more sensitive issues in the finalyear of primary schoolAttendanceWe hope that you will support us in ensuring that your child’s attendance is good. Pleasenotify school immediately if your child will be absent from school or is late. Withoutnotification your child’s absence is recorded as unauthorised.Breakfast ClubThe club runs from 8:15 am until 8:45 am each weekday. The charge is 60 pence per day (orfree if your child is entitled to free school meals). There is a choice of cereal, toast with avariety of spreads, fruit and cordial.Code of ConductOur Ofsted report (2010) described the school as ‘caring’ and in this nurturing environmentchildren behave well. We have three very simple rules:1. Always walk2. Always treat others and their things with respect3. Always follow instructions the first time they are given.Children who always stick to the school rules are called our ‘always’ children and arerewarded at the end of each term and then the end of the school year.8
