MATHMOD VIENNA 2012 7th Vienna International Conference on Mathematical Modelling February 15 – 17, 2012, Vienna University of Technology CONFERENCE PROGRAMME Dear MATHMOD 2012 Participants, Welcome at MATHMOD 2012. We are glad, that more than 400 participants chose MATHMOD 2012 to present and discuss developments and trends in mathematical modelling. MATHMOD 2012 offers two novelties. First, we have increased the number of plenary lectures, in order to allow a better discussion between the very different disciplines and areas of mathematical modelling. And secondly, we have changed the publication strategy: MATHMOD 2012 Proceedings will be published at IFAC- PapersOnLine.net, due to better availability and citation; MATHMOD 2012 Preprints will be available at the conference. We thank all authors, and all organisers of the very successful MATHMOD Minisymposia for their effort and co-operation. Conferences have two souls, a scientific soul and a social soul – both are needed for success; so we have provided a hopefully attractive Social Programme. We wish you a fruitful MATHMOD 2012 and a pleasant stay in Vienna. Inge Troch, Felix Breitenecker MATHMOD Scope – Topics - IPC The scope of MATHMOD 2012 covers theoretic and applied aspects of the various types of mathematical modelling (equations of various types, automata, Petri nets, bond graphs, qualitative and fuzzy models, etc.) for systems of dynamic nature (deterministic, stochastic, continuous, discrete or hybrid with respect to time, etc.). Comparison of modelling approaches, model simplification, modelling uncertainties, port-based modelling, and the impact of items such as these on problem solution, numerical techniques, validation, automation of modelling and software support for modelling, co-simulation, etc. will be discussed in special sessions as well as applications of modelling in control, design or analysis of systems in engineering and other fields of application. The topics to be discussed will include e.g. • modelling theory , fractional calculus • processes/ methods for modelling, identification, development, reduction, validation • automation of modelling and software aids for modelling • qualitative modelling including fuzzy and iterative approaches to modelling • modular modelling and interdisciplinary modelling • learning networks / uncertainties in modelling • relationship between the modelling approach and problem solutions • comparison of methods for modelling, model reduction and model validation • effects of modelling errors on overall performance of an engineering system • applications in the field of engineering systems and in natural sciences • applications in environmental systems, biotechnology, etc. • applications in operation research, logistics and planning • applications in medicine, physiology, health care and health technology assessment • recent developments like cyberphysical modelling • modelling aspects in scientific computing
