Vacancy for Internship at PICUMSeptember-December 2013 (4 months)PICUM, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants, is a nongovernmentalorganization that aims to promote the respect for basic social rights ofundocumented migrants in Europe. PICUM seeks to achieve this aim by providing its membersand other interested parties with expertise, advice and support, by strengthening networkingamongst organizations dealing with undocumented migrants in Europe, and by formulatingrecommendations for improving the legal and social position of these migrants, in accordancewith national constitutions and international treaties.Interns play an important role in the projects and on-going work of PICUM. They are offered anopportunity to gain hands-on experience with the different facets of promoting social and policychange in the area of human rights for undocumented migrants.Tasks:For the period from September-December 2013, the intern will contribute to PICUM’s work inthe following areas:Assist the communications team in the coordination of volunteers, the production ofPICUM’s newsletters and management of communication toolsProvide support for the organisation of PICUM’s events.Assist the Advocacy Officer with background research, contact management,drafting of statements and other written materials, attend and report on events inBrussels.Assist PICUM staff with the compilation of reportsProvide support for project activities organised by PICUM including assisting withbackground research, translations, logistics and note taking.Database: regularly update the list of contacts and manage requestsWebsite: update information and provide support for restructuring the websiteUpdate PICUM’s library and e-library by classifying and entering into the databasevarious printed and electronic materials on undocumented migrants.Translations (depending on language skills)Support the PICUM Director, and PICUM staff with general administrative tasksincluding liaising with PICUM members.ProfileUniversity degree, Master’s degree an asset.Some knowledge of and an interest in learning more about issues concerningundocumented migrants and human rights.Excellent level of English (oral and written proficiency). Other EU languages an asset,particularly French and Spanish


Ability to work independently.Strong writing and computer skills are preferred.Some experience in event managementTimeframe:The internship is full time and is carried out in PICUM’s office in Brussels.Starting date: Monday, 2 September 2013Ending date: Friday, 20 December 2013Terms:PICUM will provide the intern with a total allowance of €1257,57 over the four month period ofthe internship.
