IASF Roma - STATUS REPORTfor the Visiting CommitteeRef: IASF-RM-VC-001/07DATA: 19 November 2007Page: 40/1345 Provision of material, equipments and working spaceOur Institute is located in the so called “Area di Ricerca di Tor Vergata” (hereafter ”ResearchArea”) that was built in the ‘90es by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) as a centrededicated to host 13 different research CNR Institutes, among which IASF (Space AstrophysicsInstitute) and IFSI (Interplanetary Space Physics). The different institutes were moved in the”Research Area” during 1997, including IASF, and the total people working in thisinterdisciplinary “small village” were exceeding 500 units.The ”Research Area” is composed by several buildings, basically hosting scientists,technologists and administrative staff and a cospicous number of dedicated Laboratories, CleanRooms and facilities tuned to specialised activities.Among them several large “Clean Rooms” ranging from 100,000 to 10,000 to integrate spacedetectors and experiments and then store Flight Spare during operative missions (like theINTEGRAL-IBIS QM/FS equipment stored in building F). The cleanest ones, used mostly formicroelectronics advanced studies exceed Class 100.There is a so called Large Experimental Integration Laboratory (Building F), initially thought forlarge balloon payload integration (exceeding 2-3 tons) and now partially re-converted to host 2clean rooms to host INTEGRAL, AGILE and Planetary Mission flight Hardware.The need for wide and tall integration space for balloon operation was recovered with thepurchase and mounting of the so called “Weatherport” demountable tent-like structure, nowhosting the Olimpo Experiment planned to fly from Svalbard Island in June 2008 with a longduration circum-polar flight (exceeding 2 weeks).40
