Students haveknowledge of the principles of, and the requirements for, specific skills andmethods of social work and have learned to apply some of the tools and techniquesinvolved.Students have knowledge of core ethical principles and standards regarding socialwork methods of intervention. They begin to reflect critically on existingprofessional social work practices and, to some extent, their own professionalpractice in relation to these principles and standards. Students demonstrate arudimentary ability to translate ethical principles and standards into selectivemeasures and actions and to develop and justify intervention strategies, whilst atthe same time taking into account the context in which intervention takes place andthe specific issues which are addressed.With a view to the particular contexts in which social work professional practicetakes place, students begin to develop an understanding of the challenges facingsocial work professional practice, which are reflected in the ambivalent dimensionof such concepts as structured and non-structured approach, nearness and distance,control and support.
