While thesefigures glide through thedarkened space, carryingout various tasks, the radiocommunication betweenthem can be heard in Chinese.The film records thesescenes in one section thatcreates an alienating effectbetween the viewer andthe diorama, showing it asan animation. The entiremechanical animation ofthe departure and returnwas filmed, and in thismaterial, the presentation isshown in a loop. An acousticelement was added, withsubtitles that seem to be inthe rhythm of the originalsound, of a conversationabout “die ideale Stadt.” Thesubtitles appear in translation,the mechanical animationas a kind of sciencefiction movie.
