E. BODILY LOCATION OF INJURY/DISEASE CLASSIFICATIONThe bodily location of injury/disease classification is intended to identify the part of the bodyaffected by the most serious injury or disease.The classification consists of a summary classification and a detailed listing whichincorporates inclusions and exclusions for many of the codes.To further assist coders, an alphabetic listing containing many of the technical and commonusage terms that may be reported is also included.The classification is not significantly different from the Australian Bureau of Statistics ‘BodilyLocation of Injury’ classification on which it is based.The classification has been structured hierarchically and consists of nine divisions (first digitlevel) divided into several major groups (two digit level) which in turn consist of a number ofsub-group codes (three digit level).The classification relies on sufficient detail being available to allow the allocation ofappropriate codes. Where the description given on the report form is inadequate, codersshould use any other information that is available, for example, medical certificates or otherinformation given in the report, or, where possible, by directly querying the injured worker todetermine the required information.Type of Occurrence Classification System 3 rd Edition 99
