Carol SmitCarol Smit is the in-house strategic disability manager <strong>and</strong> an expert on the subject ofdisability at Momentum. She did a B Sc in Occupational Therapy at the University of theWestern Cape after which she did the one-year Associate in Management programme atthe UCT Graduate School of Business.Carol has a wide range of experience in the fields of disability <strong>and</strong> risk management. Sheworked as an occupational therapist in the UWC Community Rehabilitation Project whereshe administered clinical treatment to patients. She has also acted as an absencemanagement consultant to various companies, such as De Beers <strong>and</strong> Shell SA. Notably,Carol was involved in the formation of Medscheme Life, together with a project team of 18members. Here she gave specific input to developing the employee benefits systems <strong>and</strong>risk products.Carol has gained risk experience at a number of international conferences. She presented apaper in Mexico City in <strong>19</strong>97 on involving communities in health care education. Her papercritically analyzed the inter-disciplinary training model that had been used at the UWCCommunity Rehab Project.
