Memorials & TributesGifts made in memory of a pet continuedIn Memory of Maggie DataWe adopted Maggie from PAWS Chicagoon November 24, 2010. We had never owned adog before, and were really nervous about theundertaking of an adoption. We were instantlydrawn to Maggie from the moment we sawher. Desperately wanting to start a family, wedecided that if we couldn’t have children, a dogwould be the perfect addition to our home.Less than a week after adopting her, we foundout we were finally pregnant! Maggie was ourgood luck charm.Maggie had been at PAWS for manymonths, patiently waiting for her foreverhome. PAWS Chicago is dedicated to findinghomes for all animals. They enrolled her intotheir adoption program despite the fact thatshe was a “special needs dog.” At 11-years-old,Maggie was arthritic, was losing her visionand hearing, and was a diabetic that requiredtwice daily injections of insulin and a specialprescription diet.Maggie was the sweetest, most gentle dogin the whole world. She brought us joy beyondour wildest dreams. Maggie died on May 24,2011, 18 months to the day that we brought herhome. Though she was not with us nearly longenough, Maggie gave us the best 18 months ofour lives. We will forever be grateful to her forshowing us the meaning of true doggie loveand for teaching us how to be parents. Wewould urge everyone to consider opening theirhearts and homes to a special needs dog atPAWS. A dog like Maggie will transform yourheart forever.Jennifer & Dominic DataLucinda was a beautiful and lovingsenior cat. She was very stressed in the shelterenvironment and as a result, did not showwell. As a PAWS Chicago volunteer, I becamefamiliar with Lucinda and her quest to finda loving new home. The Adoption Teamdecided Lucinda would do better in the FosterProgram where she could relax and rest in aquiet home- and that foster home ended upbeing mine. Once comfortably settled in, shereally blossomed - so much so that I ended upadopting her a few months later!Lucinda brought so much joy and wasalways quick with a friendly purr. I think it’sa testament to the importance of fostering, assome cats may not be able to show their trueIn Memory ofIn Memory ofLucinda SniderMurray WhiteWith tremendous sadness but even greaterlove, we made the decision to let our PAWSAlum, Murray, rest on October 10th. Histenacious spirit still shone brightly throughhis beautiful eyes but disease, medications andage were taking too great a toll on his body.He passed away peacefully at home withthe help of the kindest doctor I’ve met, eatingseared tenderloin in true Murray fashion untilhe went quietly to sleep, cradled by his twoloving personalities at the adoption center.Lucinda fought a long battle against manyailments and was a trooper throughout it all.Even towards the end, she was able to overcomeher physical ailments, and was alwaysan affectionate constant companion. Lucindastole my heart and is greatly missed!Lisa Sniderpeople who loved him beyond measure.To some who met or cared for him, Murrayseemed less than ideal; he was old, could bevocal, didn’t like dogs or kids he didn’t know,and, over time, compiled a medical historythat, to some, no longer warranted effort. Butto anyone who cared enough to look deeper,he was amazing; smart, loyal, resilient andspirited.There were many people who touchedMurray’s life but I have special gratitude forthe team at PAWS, who, on one day at AnimalCare and Control in August 2004, had theclarity to see a life worth saving and tookMurray into their care. And, special thanksto the PAWS Chicago Foster Program whosent him to me when I volunteered to fostersomeone who “needed some time out of theshelter.” The rest, as they say, is history.Murray gave me more than seven years ofcompanionship, happiness, and invaluablelife lessons.
