Petroleum EngineeringDr. Hemanta SarmaDepartment ChairPetroleum Engineering is related to the upstream activities in the exploration,development and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. OurPetroleum Engineering Department offers a modern curriculum, whichemphasizes engineering fundamentals and practices, offering an integratedapproach to applications of engineering, geoscientific principles,and technical and business decision-making tools under uncertaintiesto minimize risks. With access to the local operating company facilities,our well-equipped state-of-the-art modern laboratories and computerfacilities with the software that industry uses, we are positioned to offer awell balanced curriculum. Our relationship with ADNOC, its operatingcompanies and international shareholder partners, has been instrumentalin fostering and developing our teaching and research program outcomesto match competencies and needs often sought by our stakeholders. Our‘Total System Approach’ emphasizes new technology, student-centeredlearning, real-life exposure through field visits, value of collaborationin a multi-disciplinary setting, strict attention to the health, safety andenvironmental concerns, ability to communicate effectively, thriving incultural diversity, being respectful to others, and last but certainly notthe least, the ability to make learning an enjoyable experience.We offer Bachelor of Science, Master of Science by Research and Masterof Engineering by coursework. In addition, a PhD program is alsooffered in affiliation with our partner institutions.
