HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION OF FOG/HAZE REMOVAL SYSTEMThe goal of this project is to eliminate the effects of fog/haze from a video to improvevideo quality and real time implementation of the system using FPGA. It is used forvariety of civil and military applications which includes remote sensing, satellite imaging, during foggy weather journeys, for enhancing aerial videos etc.The presence of fog/haze can reduce visibility dramatically from aerial videos. This isdangerous for any kind of traffic, whether it is road, sea or air. The noise increasestremendously in the presence of fog/haze. This is due to the presence of aerosols suchas dust, mist and fumes which deflect light from its original course of propagation. Thelow visibility can lead to serious accidents that could be prevented by improving thevisibility somehow.FPGA is used which is a fast and robust device for video processing with minimum timedelay,So aerial video is enhanced by using FPGA. FPGA based solutions have shownsignificant speedups compared with other software and DSPs.As aim of this project is to remove fog/haze from real time videos so the hardwaredesign is processing the video at a very fast rate i.e. 25 frames per second. Thealgorithm implemented on FPGA using Fast Visibility Restoration takes the corruptedvideo as input through the camera, and then convert this video into frames (25frames/second), pass these frames from the implemented algorithm to remove fog/hazefrom the frames and then convert these frames back to video and display this clearvideo on LCD interfaced with FPGA.Syndicate Members: NC Saleha ShafiqueNC Afsheen AhmedGC Ammal AbbasSupervisor:Dr Adil Masood Siddiqi22
