NAVIGATION SYSTEM FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERSWe are developing a comprehensive information support system for RESCUE1122 by integrating vehicle tracking with the navigation system. This localized solutionwhich will not only save time, minimize human error but also provide a technologyreliant, compact and user-friendlysystem. Although navigation systems are fairly popularin automobile industry even in Pakistan however they have not yet been used inEmergency Services. In this project we shall have a server end i.e. the central office and a vehiclehaving a GSM/GPRS module and the beagle board installed in it.Whenever a call shall be received the coordinates of the location of emergencyshall be determined first by geocoding. Next we shall find the shortest path to thedestination. These jobs shall be done using the Google Map API’s. The path calculatedshall then be transmitted to the vehicle. This shall be done through the GSM/GPRSmodule attached to vehicle. At the other end i.e. the vehicle we shall have a completesystem of GPS module, GPRS/GSM module and the beagleboard xM. The beagleboardxM shall be kind of an interface for the user. A track of all the vehicles will also be keptat the control room. A tracking system already exists with the Rescue 1122. Howeverwe also shall employ a GPS module in the vehicle. Thus the shortest path shall bedisplayed to the driver and he shall then reach the location of emergency in minimaltime. Also the hospitals, police stations, clinics etc. near the location of emergencyshall be determined and also transmitted to the vehicle so that the driver can reach fromthe location of emergency to the hospitals in time and with ease.We are developing a prototype system for the city of Rawalpindi which can beextended to the other areas of Pakistan and also to other emergency services like firefighter vehicles etc.Syndicate Members: NC Afira HasnainNC Ridah NaseemPC Abdul WaheedSupervisor:Lt Col.
