14 Oct <strong>1886</strong> issue, Moweauua Call.Alice Hughes, 16 year old orphan who was recently wronged, killed herself. She was despondentover the disgrace that befell her and had felt <strong>in</strong>timidated, dishonored and disowned over recentevents. She had previously threatened to end her young life. On Tuesday, 12 Oct at Mrs Wm RReighley7s home, with whom she made her home, the young woman told Mrs Reighley sheneeded to straighten her bureau. Mrs Reighley could not f<strong>in</strong>d her s<strong>in</strong>ce and later found her <strong>in</strong> afoot of water <strong>in</strong> a little fish pond near the house. The coroner's jury was formed and ruled deathby drown<strong>in</strong>g with premeditatedly suicidal <strong>in</strong>tent.L C Uhl of Smith's Center, Kansas, is visit<strong>in</strong>g his father-<strong>in</strong>-law, Uncle Ab Widick of here.Wm Richhart and L P Tolly and families will leave next week for Eureka Spr<strong>in</strong>gs, Arkansas.J D Hays who removed fiom here to Kansas some years back is return<strong>in</strong>g. John Hays says thereare 400 people <strong>in</strong> the county poor house, and he is unable to secure employment at 25 cents aday.M F Pleak rented his home and 160 acres of his farm to John Evans of German Ridge, Indiana.Jack Atk<strong>in</strong>son, who was <strong>in</strong> Kansas for the past two years, has returned. While <strong>in</strong> Kansas, he hadgrave misfortune of los<strong>in</strong>g his wife and two crops. The first crop destroyed by a cyclone and thesecond crop, some 1,700 to 1,800 bushe1 of wheat after be<strong>in</strong>g shelled became wet and rotted. Services from the ME Church; Rev Janesofficiated; <strong>in</strong>terment <strong>in</strong> ME Cemetery.21 Oct <strong>1886</strong> issue. <strong>Moweaqua</strong> Call.C T Chapman visited the <strong>Moweaqua</strong> Call and shared this about his family. He is 69 years oldand his wife is 17 years his junior. He married when he was 35 years old; 10 children, 9 of whomare liv<strong>in</strong>g, were born to them. All are at home, none married, although 7 are marriageable age.Children are C T, Andrew, Ralph, Fred, Ella, Bird, Ada, Awk, and Robert Chapman. Seven ofthe children were born <strong>in</strong> the month of March, 1 on the 3rd, 8th, IOth, 12th and 28th 2 on the4th the other two children were born <strong>in</strong> December and January. Two teach school, Miss Ella andBird. Others are home on the farm and help with the farm work. Mrs Chapman is a sister of ND Sanders, the famous cattle feeder and raiser.Will Hill of Decatur visited S M Adams over the weekend.
