As they rode <strong>in</strong>to town, Lon and 0th Hill, brothers, hallooed to them. The twohorsemen replied, one word brought on another and a general fight ensured. Harrah drew aknife and began cutt<strong>in</strong>g right and left with Lon Hill be<strong>in</strong>g fiighthlly slashed, and it is thought hiswound will prove fatal. 0th Hill was also severely cut and otherwise <strong>in</strong>jured. Sometime ago he raised a disturbance <strong>in</strong> Decatur. His arrest was attemptedby Policeman Wilk<strong>in</strong>son, whom he stabbed twice, <strong>in</strong>flict<strong>in</strong>g a wound just above and below theheart, which would have resulted <strong>in</strong> murder had it not been for the thick cloth<strong>in</strong>g the officer wore.Harrah was liberated upon giv<strong>in</strong>g bond <strong>in</strong> the sum of $1,000 to await the action of a grand jury.Jas Johnson is a horse buyer for Ross Ward of Shelbyville. Last Friday, Ward gave Johnson$520 and started him to Ramsey to buy some horses. At Pana he got to dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g and was <strong>in</strong>ducedto engage <strong>in</strong> a game of poker <strong>in</strong> a gambl<strong>in</strong>g den over Pat Coudy's saloon. He was drugged androbbed of the amount of money above named. Mr Ward was notified by wire of Johnson's fateand at once went to Pana where he found Johnson <strong>in</strong> an unconscious condition. Johnson wasremoved to Shelbyville and up to Tuesday night he had not rega<strong>in</strong>ed his reason. The doseadm<strong>in</strong>istered by the gamblers proved almost fatal. The men who committed the crime arethoroughly conv<strong>in</strong>ced that Ward can't be bull-dozed. We could more m<strong>in</strong>utely detail the affairbut have sworn secrecy.Prof (?) J L Boyles, the bl<strong>in</strong>d lecturer and temperance agitator, who was here last week provedto be a dead beat and thief He did this <strong>in</strong>stitution up for $9.50. He jumped his board bill andcarried off a lot of goods he had secured from J A Hilsabeck and for which he was to pay as hesold them. He is accompanied <strong>in</strong> his peregr<strong>in</strong>ations by a kid and a dandy dude named 'Dodgers'.They are a trio of thieves.
