The FTLD is easy to install and can be made from locally available materials; easy to operate; utilizes biomass as heat source; dries wood materials to a level acceptable to both local and foreign markets, has drying efficiency comparable with that of conventional steam-heated dryer. The procedure requires a charring drum in which the biomass is charred. The char obtained by the carbonization of biomass residues is crushed and mixed with a binder such as clay, and then briquetted in a briquette mould into cylindrical honeycomb briquettes.
