The South Downs Community Special School Outreach Service offers support to mainstream primary schools in theEastbourne <strong>and</strong> Hailsham area of East Sussex. The service is managed by <strong>and</strong> located within The South DownsCommunity Special School (East Site).Mission Statement: the Outreach Service aims to offer specialist support to mainstream schools to address theneeds of its pupils who have language <strong>and</strong> communication needs, including autism.Vision: our vision is to work in partnership with mainstream schools to develop the expertise of staff so that pupils inmainstream schools with language <strong>and</strong> communication needs, including autism, have access to the support thatthey need throughout their school day, to reach their academic <strong>and</strong> social potential.Specialist support is delivered by the Outreach Service in a variety of ways designed to respond to the needsidentified within each individual mainstream school including:Whole School SupportMainstream School Staff CPDParent/carer SupportPupil SupportMulti-agency workingReferral Process / Criteria: referrals are made to the service through the CITES Integrated Referral Pathway.Referral forms are contained in the Outreach H<strong>and</strong>book for Schools <strong>and</strong> can be obtained from the outreach service.Contact Details: Penny Kershaw, The South Downs Outreach Service, The South Downs Community SpecialSchool (East Site) Tel. 01323 761061 email: outreach@downs.e-sussex.sch.ukSpectrumWe are a county wide service that supports young people with autism to access leisure opportunities throughadvice, support, mentoring <strong>and</strong> training. This is a time limited service that facilitates young people to access clubs<strong>and</strong> groups with the aim of them being able to independently continue at a club once the service has finished. Wealso provide training <strong>and</strong> support for leisure providers to make groups more accessible. The service is open anyonein East Sussex aged between 0 <strong>and</strong> 19 with autism as long as they can maintain a placement once our support hasfinish .
