The U19sms covers East Sussex (excluding Brighton <strong>and</strong> Hove) & aims to offer one to one support to young peopleunder 19 years who have alcohol/drug issues. The service offers tier 2-4 (prevention –treatment) service provisionincluding an assessment, case work <strong>and</strong> access to a range of holistic specialist interventions, focused around theyoung person’s health, wellbeing <strong>and</strong> social functioning. The team is made up of substance misuse workers,psychiatrists, nurses, social workers <strong>and</strong> Connexions personal advisors.Referral Process: Referrals can be made by phone, fax, post or email. All enquiries are addressed on the day by aduty worker. It may be appropriate in some instances for a non-specialist worker to deliver, with guidance fromU19’s SMS, an intervention to those young people who refuse to engage with another service.Contact Details: Head Office contact number: 01323 464404. Opening times: Mon – Fri 9am -5pmYouth Support Team, ESCC Children’s ServicesThe Youth Support Team provides an assessment service for Children in Need <strong>and</strong> Children in Need of Protectionfor young people over 11 in Eastbourne <strong>and</strong> <strong>Lewes</strong> <strong>and</strong> Wealden (including Hailsham).The Eastbourne Youth Support Team is the intake team for Child Protection referrals for young people over theage of 11 in the West of East Sussex. Unless there is deemed a risk to the child, professionals should inform theparents that they are making this referral to Children’s Services. Child Protection enquires will be made on referralswhere a child is assessed as being at significant risk of harm. Children's Services work closely with the Police ChildProtection Team in investigating child protection cases. . Referrals by members of the public are accepted <strong>and</strong>anonymity is respected if necessary.
