6. Appendix: Grade descriptionsCIE provides grade descriptions to give a general indication of what a candidate must achieve for a particulargrade. Centres should use the generic mark scheme (section 5.2) for guidance only, alongside theconfidential mark scheme sent to examiners for each exam session. The confidential mark scheme refers tomark allocations for the specific tasks set in the practical exam.Grade ATo achieve an A grade, a candidate must show:• critical awareness and intelligent understanding of the scientific and practical concepts in the syllabus;• excellent ability to select appropriate dishes and organise time;• a good variety of skills needed for preparation.Grade CTo achieve a C grade, a candidate must show:• some critical awareness and understanding of the scientific and practical concepts in the syllabus;• reasonable ability to select appropriate dishes and organise time;• some skills needed for preparation.Grade FTo achieve an F grade, a candidate must show:• some theoretical and practical understanding of the concepts in the syllabus;• some ability to select appropriate dishes;• some knowledge of skills needed for preparation.<strong>Cambridge</strong> IGCSE Food and Nutrition 0648.
