popular beliefs, the<br />

healthiest way to lose<br />

weight is by eating healthier and<br />

exercising.<br />

Here are some tips to a<br />

healthier you:<br />

• Begin a consistent exercise routine. No excuses <strong>for</strong><br />

not exercising, but be sure to check with your doctor<br />

first.<br />

• Eat smaller portions and understand the portion<br />

sizes of all foods.<br />

• Eat three meals per day; do not skip meals.<br />

• Increase fiber: eat whole grains and less refined carbohydrates.<br />

The Post Exchange Refill Pharmacy<br />

is the only site to pick up refills called in<br />

or ordered online.<br />

MEDDAC requires a signed authorization<br />

<strong>for</strong>m to be completed be<strong>for</strong>e a<br />

spouse, family member or friend can<br />

pick up someone else’s prescriptions.<br />

from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekdays<br />

(in the MACH basement).<br />

Refill Pharmacy: open from 9 a.m. to 6<br />

p.m., weekdays (in the Post Exchange<br />

Health<br />

• Increase veggies to three or more servings per day.<br />

• Increase fruits to two-to-three servings per day.<br />

• Decrease or avoid sweetened beverages (regular<br />

soda, fruit drinks, sweet tea, sports drinks, Kool-Aid or<br />

lemonade.)<br />

• Decrease fast food and restaurant dining.<br />

• Keep a food diary <strong>for</strong> at least one week.<br />

• Measure foods so that you know what one serving<br />

looks like.<br />

• Decrease excess consumption of junk foods, such<br />

as cookies, cakes, pies, candy, doughnuts, pastries, chips,<br />

crackers and soda. Save these items <strong>for</strong> special occasions<br />

and even then watch the portion sizes.<br />

• Decrease excess fats that are in fast food, fatty cuts<br />

of meat, full fat dairy products, chips, desserts, butter,<br />

margarine, cream, high-fat salad dressings, sauces and<br />

gravies.<br />

• Use small amounts of healthy fats, such as olive or<br />

canola oil, avocados, nuts, seeds, fatty fish like salmon,<br />

mackerel, albacore tuna, sardines, herring and fat found<br />

in soy products. Do not eliminate total fat.<br />

Gastric Bypass Support Group<br />

The Gastric Bypass Support Group<br />

will meet at 6 p.m., the second Tuesday<br />

of the month in the MACH eighth floor<br />

This is not just <strong>for</strong> weight loss<br />

patients; all who are interested are welcome<br />

to attend.<br />

Adopt a Pet<br />

Call the veterinary clinic <strong>for</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

751-7160/5132 on adopting a cat or<br />

dog.<br />

Medical Records<br />

Medical records are the property of<br />

the U.S. government and must be turned<br />

in at the Medical Records Station upon<br />

enrolling at MACH. Call 751-2471 <strong>for</strong> a<br />

copy of records.<br />

Soldiers to be treated at Hagen<br />

Dental Clinic<br />

<strong>All</strong> <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Jackson</strong> permanent party dental<br />

records have been transferred to<br />

Hagen Dental Clinic.<br />

Soldiers with scheduled appointments<br />

will be treated there, and those reporting<br />

<strong>for</strong> dental sick call may do so 7:15-10<br />

a.m. and 1:15-2:30 p.m., weekdays. Any<br />

questions regarding this change, call 751-<br />

5820.<br />

TRICARE Online<br />

Beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE<br />

Prime at MACH can schedule an<br />

appointment 24 hours a day, seven days<br />

a week at www.tricareonline.com or<br />

Tips to feel full:<br />

• Eat more fiber and drink more water.<br />

• Eat more veggies or start a meal with a broth based<br />

soup.<br />

• Slow down when eating and wait 20 minutes be<strong>for</strong>e<br />

going <strong>for</strong> seconds.<br />

Fad diets:<br />

Don’t diet. Diets are short term and to lose weight<br />

permanently you must change your eating habits.<br />

Herbal weight loss supplements can be dangerous<br />

because many can interact with different supplements or<br />

prescription medications. Beware of emotional eating<br />

and other stimulants to eating and make sure to eat only<br />

when you are truly hungry.<br />

TRICARE Online Kiosks<br />

TRICARE online kiosks are located<br />

at the post library, the MG Robert B.<br />

Solomon Center, the Strom Thurmond<br />

Building, the hospital, the golf course,<br />

the refill pharmacy, the Education center,<br />

the Palmetto Lodge and the Post<br />

Exchange.<br />

These kiosks allow eligible patients<br />

optimize access to health care through<br />

Web-based technologies, tools and in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Overseas Travel Clinic<br />

The Overseas Travel Clinic is held<br />

from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday and<br />

Friday. For more in<strong>for</strong>mation call 751-<br />
