Riva: There is one private and one public beach in Riva.<br />

Şile: Şile is a small ltown on the coast of the Black Sea. It is approximately a 11/2 hour drive from<br />

the European side.<br />

Below are just some of <strong>Istanbul</strong>'s major parks.<br />

BELGRADE FOREST<br />

The forest is north of Maslak. The Belgrade Forest is a popular picnicking site and has a jogging and<br />

hiking trail 7 kilometers long around a lake.<br />

PARK ORMAN<br />

Located in <strong>Istanbul</strong>'s Maslak district, this park was designed by the Forestry Director in that area and<br />

is run by a private entrepreneur. Sporting activities and weekend excursions can be organized there.<br />

EMIRGAN WOODS (Emirgan Korusu)<br />

The Emirgan Park is a historical park, one of the largest public parks in <strong>Istanbul</strong>. The park is owned<br />

and administered by the municipality of <strong>Istanbul</strong> and covers 117 acres. Jogging tracks, picnic tables,<br />

and restaurants in restored Ottoman hunting lodges make the Emirgan Park a very popular<br />

recreation area. Inside the park with two decorative ponds are plants of more than <strong>12</strong>0 species. The<br />

annual Tulip Festival is organized here every April making the park very colorful with these plants.<br />

YILDIZ PARK<br />

Yıldız Park in Beşiktaş is a beautiful, wooded preserve with walking trails, picnicking areas, and cafes.<br />

located between the palaces of Yıldız and Çıragăn. The park is separated into two sections, the outer<br />

section is open to the public and comprises the Şale, Çadır and Malta pavilions and the still-operating<br />

Yıldız porcelain factory. The ornate Malta Köşk is an excellent place for Sunday brunch or weekday<br />

GÜLHANE PARK<br />

Located adjacent to and on the grounds of the Topkapı Palace, the park is adjacent to the <strong>Istanbul</strong><br />

Archeological Museum. The south entrance of Gülhane Park sports one of the larger gates of the<br />

palace. It is the oldest public parks in <strong>Istanbul</strong>.<br />

ATATÜRK ARBORETUM<br />

Established by the <strong>Istanbul</strong> branch of the State Forestry Directorate, the arboretum is open to the<br />

public on weekdays. For weekend entrance, application and a nominal annual fee is required.<br />
