The purpose <strong>of</strong> the MU-P district is to: (a) implement the <strong>Sand</strong><strong>City</strong> General Plan land use policies relating to the mixed use classification illustratedon the General Plan Diagram; (b) encourage development and redevelopment <strong>of</strong>mixed residential, commercial and light-industrial uses that ensure land usecompatibility; (c) encourage the creation <strong>of</strong> living wage jobs; (d) provide for thecontinued availability <strong>of</strong> light manufacturing and commercial businesses; (e) provideopportunities for <strong>of</strong>fice development where it will not unduly interfere with lightmanufacturing and commercial uses: (f) allow on-site ancillary retail use to maintainand enhance the economic viability <strong>of</strong> manufacturers, artists and artisans in thedistrict; (g) allow buildings and site areas where living and working environmentscan be combined in an effort to reduce work commutes and provide for a more livelyarea <strong>of</strong> town; and (h) establish a conditional use permit procedure for all new andproposed commercial, light industrial and residential uses within the district to insureland use compatibility and real estate marketability.<strong>18</strong>.13.020 Principal Permitted Uses. Principal permitted uses in the MU-P districtare:A. All legal businesses and uses existing within the MU-P district at the time <strong>of</strong> theadoption <strong>of</strong> this ordinance shall be considered permitted uses, but only on the sitesthey currently occupy. All businesses and uses with existing conditional usepermits at the time <strong>of</strong> the adoption <strong>of</strong> this ordinance shall be allowed to continue as ause permitted by conditional use permit, and only on the site they currently occupy.Expansion <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> these uses beyond their current locations will require<strong>18</strong>-34
