Raffle tickets can be purchasedall this week at the Wildlife Centerand at the event on Friday.The Key West Wildlife’s missionis to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Releaseas many wild birds as possible. In2011, the center rescued 1134 wildbirds and 1400 chickens. This year,in less than one month, 55 wildbirds and 91 chickens have beenrescued. These birds serve as thecenters education birds, helping toeducate the public about the nativebirds of the Keys, as well as how toprevent injuries to birds caused byhumans.The Key West Wildlife Centeris located inside the IndigenousPark, next to the Bocce courtsand across from the White StreetPier. The center’s goals for this year,with the funds raised are: to add anx-ray machine to the wildlife hospital,purchase food for the birdsand make necessary repairs to therescue vehicle. The x-ray machinewill help diagnose and treat birdsthat we suspect may have brokenbones. The center is open dailyfrom 9am-5pm and is always lookingfor volunteers.
