He was 83.A native of Louisville, Ky., Schupp attended LouisvilleMale High School, before joining the U.S. Navyduring World War II. He served on a battleship in thePacific Theater.After the war, he worked for Pillsbury for morethan 30 years in New Albany, <strong>In</strong>d.; Seelyville, <strong>In</strong>d.; andMinneapolis, Minn.Following his retirement from Pillsbury in 1988,Schupp moved to Florida and founded Schupp Consulting.As a nationally recognized expert on grainelevator safety, he traveled extensively, teaching, andconducting seminars on OSHA standards and how toapply them in the grain industry.Also in 1988, Schupp began writing columns in<strong>Grain</strong> Journal, and by the time of his death had writtenmore than 100 articles for this magazine.“Adam was committed to safety,” said <strong>Grain</strong> JournalPublisher Mark Avery. “His insight and dedicationto the grain industry will be missed.”<strong>In</strong> retirement, he also enjoyed golf, tennis, reading,and listening to music by the pool.Memorial ServiceA memorial service was scheduled for 11:30 a.m.April 3 at Traditions Hall, 105 E National Ave, Brazil, <strong>In</strong>d.,with the Rev. Joseph H. Beaty, Executive Vice President and cofounderof Tapco <strong>In</strong>c in St. Louis, retired from the companyon Jan. 1. Beaty was a <strong>GEAPS</strong> Associate memberfor 25 years and belonged to the Gateway Chapter.Beaty and partner Paul D. Taylor, founded Tapco (TedAnd Paul COmpany) on Oct. 8, 1974. <strong>In</strong> the ensuing35 years, Tapco has grown to be one of the largestmanufacturers of elevator buckets in the world.“I’m leaving with the best crew we have ever hadin every department,” Beaty says.Upon graduating from Arizona State University in1964, Beaty joined the family business, Beaty MachineWorks, in Keokuk, Iowa. After a merger with BearingHeadquarters in the early 1970s, he and Taylor startedTapco <strong>In</strong>c. Today, Tapco sells elevator buckets andAdam Schuppelevator bolts coast to coast and exports to more than50 countries around the world.<strong>In</strong> addition to <strong>GEAPS</strong>, Beaty is a past memberof IAOM, AFS, NIBA, and via Tapco, member of manystate grain and feed associations. Beaty is an activeand enthusiastic promoter of St. Louis and has servedon the Governor of Missouri’s Commission for MarketingMissouri Agricultural Products.Beaty is proud to have been associated with theagricultural and industrial industries for 45 years.
