Micro-g LaCoste is proud to introduce the gPhoneXgravity meter as the latest member of its land gravitymeters. The gPhoneX gravity meter is based upon theLaCoste and Romberg technology that has dominated landgravity meters since 1939.The gPhonex gravity meter has a low drift so that it can be used tointegrate periodic singals (like earth tides) for very long time periods (years). The gPhoneX also has excellent hight frequency response so they can be usedto monitor higher frequency non-periodic events such as earthquakes. ThegPhoneX can be coarse-ranged over 7000 milliGals (worldwide, and has a100 milliGal dynamic range during measurement. The versatile gPhoneX gravity meter has a sophisticated data acquisitionsystem synchronized by a rubidium clock that can be locked to GPS so thatarrays of gPhoneXs can be used to give a wider area picture of seismic or longperiod gravity changes due to subsurface density changes. The instrumentcan be monitored and controlled via the internet for remote operation. The principal behind the Micro-g LaCoste’s gPhoneX is the patented L&Rzero-length spring suspension system. The gPhoneX is based upon theG-Meter, but with significant upgrades:• It has an improved thermal system, a double-oven, for moreprecise temperature stability.• It has a true vacuum seal so that it is completely insensitive tobuoyancy changes due to atmospheric changes• It employs the Aliod beam nulling system for precise digitalmeasurement of gravity with 0.1 µGal resolution. The complete Micro-g LaCoste gPhoneX System is a light weight, compactsystem and ships with three major components at a total weight includingcarrying case of 58 kg.www.microglacoste.com

instrument features• Aliod Beam Nulling System:Electronic feedback system forprecise digital measurement witha resolution of 0.1 µGal.• Zero Length Spring Tension systemensuring world-wide gravity range.• Sensor housed in an insulateddouble-oven ensuring accuratetemperature control.• Pressure and temperature arecontinuously monitored and canbe used to correct gravity data inreal time.• Gravity and Level signals digitizedby accurate 24 A/D converters andstable voltage references.• Synchronizes GPS time withextremely accurate Rubidium timing.• Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) insulates the system frompower fluctuations.• Three sealed chambers isolatethe sensor from humidity andpressure changes.• A built-in internet webserver allowsthe gPhoneX data logging screen tobe accessed in real-time from theinternet and permits authorized usersto download data remotely.gPhoneX Applications• Volcanic Monitoring• Earth Tides• Reservoir Monitoring• Earthquake Monitoring• Ocean Loading StudiesgMonitor Software screenshotgMonitor main screen• Upper Left: Setup parameters• Lower Left: Integrated accelerationprovides velocity and position• Upper Right: Raw Acceleration• Lower Right: Measured earth tide(red line) compared with modeledearthtide (blue line)

gPhoneX Data Example2007 Kiril islandsEarthquakeThe January 13, 2007 earthquake (M8.2) off thecoast of the Kiril Islands was detected by thegPhoneX gravity meter at the Micro-g LaCostefacility in Colorado. These data demonstrate thatgPhoneXs are capable of recording extremelyprecise vertical acceleration, velocity, and displacement during quiet periods aswell as during period of high seismic activity.Kiril Islands earthquake recorded in Lafayette, CO USA. Displacement due toP, S, and Rayleigh waves recorded with gPhoneX (data sampled at 1s).The above graph displays repeat wave arrivals as detected by the gPhoneX. TheseRayleigh waves traveled around the globe eleven times after the earthquake.
