LondonLondonin SummerText: Alja BukovecPhotographs: ShutterstockIn the summer months the proverbially grey and rainy London comes to lifeout of doors – outside its red-brick walls, under trees, on the broad grassyexpanses of the city parks and on the lively river embankments. Not eventhe occasional shower (we are in London after all!) can spoil the traditionaljostling with a pint in your hand outside a pub, or evening gatherings withjugs of Pimm’s in gardens or on terraces with a view of the endless urbanfabric that never really stops and is never really silent. In these warmer months of the year, almostall of London’s parks are transformed intovenues for concerts, plays and exhibitionsof the highest calibre. So as well as seeing allthe conventional sights – from the Housesof Parliament and Big Ben and the changingof the guard at Buckingham Palace to a visitto Chinatown and a walk down Piccadillyamong the throngs of tourists – it is worthadding a visit to one of the many outdoorevents, taking the time for a picnic and a lazysprawl on the grass of a park, and setting offaround the city by bicycle, on foot or evenby boat, to discover the London that liesbeyond the classic tourist traps. One such route that allows you to discovervarious parts of London from a slightlydifferent point of view runs along the urbanwaterway that is the Regent’s Canal. This14-kilometre route begins in a small basin inthe west of the city not far from Paddingtonin the charming district known as LittleVenice. This area is famous for its numerouspleasant cafés, restaurants and pubs with atranquil waterside setting. From here you canhead towards central London on foot or bybicycle along the towpath, or even by waterusing one of the wooden boats moored here.34 | Adria Airways In-Flight MagazineFoto: Nicho Södling
