In the far background, across the street,we see the skulking figure of <strong>Hyde</strong>, looking in the variousshops as he hurries along.235 CLOSE PAN SHOT - HYDE235He seems to be searching for a certain shop, passing abutcher's, a shoemaker's, a wine shop, a plumbing shop, notionstore, etc., peering into each with a sort of desperation.Finally, o.s. ahead of him, he sees what he wants. His facelights up. He is just about to start for it, when he looksdown the street o.s., from where we hear the sound of trottinghooves. He ducks into a dark recess, watches.236 PAN SHOT - HIS ANGLE - TWO MOUNTED BOBBIES236They trot down the street, looking this way <strong>and</strong> that.237 BACK TO HYDE237He watches them o.s., as the sound of their horses' hoovesdisappears. Then WE DOLLY AND PAN HIM as he hurries a fewpaces down the black street until he comes opposite a storewindow which reads: "Grundy & Co. Stationery Supplies". Hepeers in the window.238 CLOSE SHOT - HYDE'S ANGLE - STATIONERY, INK AND PENS.238They are on display.239 BACK TO HYDE239He tries the door of the shop; of course, it isn't open. Helooks about, sees a newspaper rack - a heavy wooden st<strong>and</strong>ard -seizes it, raises it above his head <strong>and</strong> smashes the windowwith it. He reaches in <strong>and</strong> snags paper, ink bottle, pen.Envelopes <strong>and</strong> paper scatter over the walk. Almost immediately,a light goes on in back of the store as a door opens <strong>and</strong> aman <strong>and</strong> his wife <strong>and</strong> an older woman rush into the front partof store. <strong>Hyde</strong> is now scooting up the sidewalk toward theb.g. The store folk come out, in nightclothes, viewing thewreckage, spying <strong>Hyde</strong> darting up the street.OLD WOMAN(screaming)There he goes -!(CONTINUED)
