As a technology-driven company, Raytheon
places the highest value on technical excellence. Each
year, the company honors achievements in technology
within Raytheon Engineering and Technology. Individuals
and teams across the company, nation and world who
receive this award are recognized for their excellence in
technology, as well as the contribution their technology
makes to the company and society as a whole.
Recipients of this award are joined by the leadership
team, colleagues and guests as we celebrate their
remarkable achievements. This year, we are proud to
present the Excellence in Technology Awards in
Washington D.C. at the National Air and Space Museum’s
new Steven F. Udvar–Hazy Center. This new hangar-home
houses such historical air and space triumphs as the
Space Shuttle Enterprise, Enola Gay, Concorde and 135
other space vehicles. Towering 160 feet over the hangar
is The Donald D. Engen Tower air-traffic control center,
which opened December 15, 2003 on the 100th anniversary
of the Wright brothers’ first flight — thanks to a
$1 million donation and $250,000 donation in kind by
Raytheon. Paired with impressive technology achievements,
the sight is inspirational, exciting and encouraging
as we honor the past, reward the present and look
toward the future.
Raytheon is a healthy technical company and fertile
ground for new ideas and new approaches to meet
diverse business challenges. Our innovation and technology
benchmarks ensure Raytheon’s place in an increasingly
competitive world. Equally important are the ideas that
produce new products, reduce costs, improve quality and
ensure customer satisfaction. All of these ideals are represented
in the Excellence in Technology Awards. The future
is bright and, with engineers like these, we will be part of it.
Please join us in congratulating this year’s winners of the
2003 Excellence in Technology Awards.
