BROWNING A PASSIONYour first gun is like a first romance, unforgettable! Mine was a .22 oneshotrifle from the Herstal National WarWeapons Factory which had yet to beknown simply as “FN”. With my gunloaded I will never forget those firstfeelings of excitement, of adrenaline,of passion as I lay in wait for the quarryto come in to range.I discovered the BROWNING/FNassociation a few years later. WhilstPartridge shooting I had been soimpressed by the shooting skills andwonderful clean kills of my Shootingcompanion who had chosen to usehis “Auto 5” a gun he simply referredto as his BROWNING. Initially Iattended the clay shooting groundsas a spectator; I soon noticed that the“crack shots” were most often using aBROWNING over and under shotgun. From then on, I was utterly convincedthat it was the brand of choice for thetop shooters.I’ve always had a keenness for semiautomatics, they tend to suit me bestbecause they require a little morecare and attention which involves youmore, giving extra time and handlingpleasure.I’m lucky enough to have a really keenand supportive gun dealer, thanks towhom I’ve got a small “harem” ofBROWNING Semi-Automatics! Each ofwhich has its favourite quarry, the onewhose best shots remain engraved onmy memory for all time.• The “Double Automatic”, is withouta doubt my favourite, its appearancehas an elegance I love. It is my constantcompanion for my rabbit shootingtrips. Whether success is great or smallit never lets me down.• The super light “Auto 5”. For me, itis one the best “autos”, it is the mostaccomplished model in the range withregard to the weight, balance and easeof aim. I can still hear that “splash” asmy first shot Mallard falls into the waterduring a Wildfowling trip. Ever since ithas been my “Duck” gun, even thoughI often take it with me when I go roughshooting.• The “A500”. This one is especiallygood whilst decoying pigeon underthe broad leaved Oaks. Sometime I’mtempted to take another, but I alwaysseem to return to her with completetrust as she has proved her worth astime and time again I have enjoyedsuccess.• The “B2000” is the gun I sometimeuse instead. Why? Because onDecember 10th 1994, it helped meput 5 consecutive left and rights onthe “Woodies” into my game bagwithout missing a shot! Including oneunforgettably acrobatic double! Eversince, whenever I use it I hope to relivethe experience!• The super light 20 gauge “Auto 5”.Marvellously light and easy to handle,it comes with me to the woods at theend of the season, remembering itsfirst outing and its first woodcock, shotas it “jinxed” it way over the top of aBeech tree.• The “Auto 5 Final Tribute”…..FN’s“latest contribution” to the Auto 5. Islide the breech, I mount the gun tomy shoulder, I wipe it over with a clothbut I haven’t taken it out yet. Such a“beauty” as I’m slightly afraid of theodd scratch or knock, it hasn’t fired ashot yet……., but it will!• I finish with my one regret; I stillhaven’t bought the BROWNING gunfor my favourite game bird: the RedGrouse. I still have to choose withwhich from the wonderful Browningrange will I forever remember my firsttrip to the Moors, which will go perfectlywith the tremendous challengethat this King of Sporting Birdsoffers? I’m sure they all will!2 - 3 JEAN-PIERRE DEKEISTERB Y B R O W N I N G
