Today she gives us ten tips to have healthier, more beautifulskin.words & images by EVA KERSCHBAUMER1. Know your skin. We are all different. Becauseof this, each of our skin is unique and requiresunique care. If you do not take the time to knowthe unique details of your skin (dry, oily, sensitive, reacts to certain foods, breaks out easily, burnseasily, thin, bruises easily, heals slowly, ingrownhair, etc. etc) then how can you expect anyone oranything to really provide any real health benefits?2. Know your ingredients. Look at the label andread the ingredients. Look for sodium hyaluronicacid. Look for peptides. Look for ascorbic acid (VitaminC), stay away from mineral oils, stay awayfrom PEGs, stay away from sulfates, stay awayfrom “fragrance” and synthetic dyes (FD&C Blue, etc). And understand that essential oils can havebenefits but may also cause an allergic reactionfor some users.3. Plan your attack. Pollution, sun, dirt, water, textiles, deodorant, makeup, food - the average womancomes into contact with over 180 different (potentiallytoxic) chemicals BEFORE they even walkout of the house. Don’t get distracted by the latestnew youth cream. Identify your issue(s) and thenseek out a licensed professional to assist you infinding a solution to that issue - and don’t stop untilthat specific issue is solved.4. What is in your medication?Even one pillcan have a huge impacton your body chemistryand has the potentialto cause skin issues. Ifyou are aware of whatyour medicine can do(both prescription andOTC medications) thenyou can understand thepotential impact theywill have on your outward appearance. The bestthing to do is to seek out a licensed professionaland ask lots of questions.5. Use a humidifier. Dry sinuses, itchy skin, dryeyes, chapped lips - humidifiers can help alleviateissues that might be caused by dry indoor air regardlessof the season. It is important to constantlyclean your humidifier and to keep the humidity levelbetween 35 - 50 percent, since anything above50% could encourage the growth of mold spores, bacteria, dust mites and more. Another benefit isthat a good, clean humidifier can help keep yournasal passages lubricated, which can help speedup the healing process when you are feeling underthe weather. And for those with dry skin, in themorning you will notice that your face, hands andlips look and feel more supple.6. Hot and cold. Hot/cold bathing process (switchingquickly from hot to cold) acts as a kind of exercisethat helps the skin properly remove toxinsand helps the body regulate itself. When the bodyis subjected to hot temperatures, the flow of circulationgoes outward toward the skin. Under coldtemperatures, the flow of circulation is directed inwardtowards the internal organs. Alternating betweenhot and cold allows the circulation to movein and out like a wave, increasingthe rate of detoxification, helping to reducecongestion and helping tomove more nutrients to variousparts of the body. It isimportant to always beginwith hot and end with cold, increasing the level of heatand cold as much you cantolerate and repeat the procedureseven times.16 Holl & Lane, Issue 2
