The results of the entirestudent news competitionlead to the three biggestawards of the competition:Top Student News Team,Best of Festival radio winner,and Best of Festival televisionwinner.Every finalist gave his orher home school one pointin the Top Student NewsTeam competition. Thenpoints were awarded for first(5), second (3) and third (2)places to determine whichcollege or university had theconsistency across mediumand news types to earn topteam honors. Go figure. He had hard news and featurereporting radio pieces that scored high with judges, taking first and third place wins inthose categories, respectively. He is Tom Murray of Arizona State University.The Best of Festival-Television winner made strong showings in hard news reporting,feature news reporting, anchoring and was part of a radio award winning duo to boot.He is Joe Mott of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.Academically, we are half way through the 2005 competition year. Before you headoff to libraries or beaches, or before the students grab internships or graduate to “realjobs,” be sure to dub the best work and file away the scripts. Complete written scriptsalong with one copy of each entry (all on individual tapes) are due to competitionchairs by Friday, December 9 th (note: this is a RECEIVED BY date, not a postmarkdate). Radio entries will be coordinated this year by Dale Edwards who will soon takeup teaching at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.News Division thanks go out to past competition co-chair Tim Brown of theUniversity of Central Florida.
