LAW 4 – The Players’ Equipment91JewelleryAll items of jewellery (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands,rubber bands, etc.) are strictly forbidden and must be removed by the playersand substitutes before the start of the match. Using tape to cover jewellery isnot acceptable.Referees and assistant referees are also prohibited from wearing jewellery(except for the referee, who is permitted to wear a watch or similar device totime the match if the timekeeper is absent).Numbering of the playersThe competition rules must stipulate the numbering of the players, which isnormally from 1 to 15, with number 1 reserved for a goalkeeper.The organisers must bear in mind that it is impossible for referees to signalnumbers greater than 15.The number of each player must be visible on his back and be distinguishablefrom the main colour of the shirt. The competition rules must determine thesize of the numbers and whether they are mandatory, as well as their size onother items of the players’ basic equipment.
