Ethnicity and Race in a Changing World: A Review Journalspace. In this regard, one can look at Salma Yaqoob 2 , the vice chairperson of Respect and currently acity councillor in Birmingham whose political career started out through her activism. Yet it can beargued such instances of success are few and far between. However, British Muslim women, or for thatmatter British Pakistani Muslims, who are on the margins cannot always shoulder this responsibility. The media and wider society need to recognise that many British Muslim women’s geographies maybe more expansive and complex where religiosity, politics, familial space, race, class, and gender cometo intersect. No doubt the British media and to a certain extent the American media on the left didgive a fair amount of attention to Salma Yaqoob when she was elected the councillor of Birmingham, however, there remains a number of Muslims who are striving for political change and recognition, and such efforts, however small, should also be acknowledged.ReferencesAbbas, T.
