S/he will begreeted by Karen Duell or aparent volunteer and yourchild will be m<strong>at</strong>ched withthe student with whom theywill visit during the day.Wh<strong>at</strong> time and in wh<strong>at</strong> roomshould I pick up my child?Pick up your child outsideKaren Duell’s office, Room102 <strong>at</strong> 2:00 p.m.Who should I contact if Ihave additional questions?You can either speak to theparent with whom you havebeen m<strong>at</strong>ched or KarenDuell. We would alsorecommend looking <strong>at</strong> theFAQ’s on our website.We would prefer th<strong>at</strong> you complete the on-line request and hit the “send”button as we are trying to streamline this process. If this does not work foryou, you can send the form by fax to 720-424-0727 or call Karen Duell <strong>at</strong>720-424-0737.How far in advance should I schedule the visit to <strong>Morey</strong>?We would request th<strong>at</strong> you do so <strong>at</strong> least two weeks in advance.Oftentimes, we are booked three weeks in advance. The reason for thetime lag is th<strong>at</strong> we would like time to identify present <strong>Morey</strong> parentvolunteers with whom to link you and to allow us to meet any otherrequests you have, such as shadowing with a particular student or astudent from a particular school.How quickly will I know the d<strong>at</strong>e my child is scheduled for a visit?It is our goal to let you know within a week. A parent will contact youinitially by email. At th<strong>at</strong> time, we hope to be able to identify a presentparent with whom you can follow up by phone and ask questions anddialogue.Can my child visit more than one of the programs, for example both High Stridesand Highly Gifted and Talented?Yes. <strong>Morey</strong> is fortun<strong>at</strong>e to be a center for many wonderful programsDenver Public Schools has to offer. The three largest programs, each ofrel<strong>at</strong>ively equal size of about 250 students, are: Highly Gifted andTalented (HGT), High Strides or pre-AP, and AVID/Traditional. Due toscheduling conflicts, your child may shadow as many of these as s/he likesbut would have to do so on different visits.Does my child need to take any test before visiting any of the programs?No, but if your child is interested in <strong>at</strong>tending <strong>Morey</strong>’s HGT program, s/hewill need to take a test administered by Denver Public Schools and qualifybefore s/he can enroll. The applic<strong>at</strong>ion for testing is online, check the GTwebsite for the applic<strong>at</strong>ion due d<strong>at</strong>e. MOREY VISITATIONWho will meet with me and my child on the day we visit?Karen Duell, <strong>Morey</strong>’s PARENT liaison, and/or a present <strong>Morey</strong>parent will greet you and be available to answer questions youmay have. Of course, a student in the grade and program inwhich your child is interested will also be thereWhere should I park for an hour or two when coming to visit?There is parking available in the city streets surrounding<strong>Morey</strong>. The easiest place to park is on 14 th Avenue on thenorth side of the school, which is currently a 30-minute zone.Since you will be arriving about ½ hour or so after schoolbegins, the crunch for spots will be less. If you plan onstaying longer than 30-minutes, please do not park on 14 th asyou may get ticketed. If you find parking space in any of<strong>Morey</strong>’s three parking lots off of Emerson St., you may alsopark in one of those spots.Wh<strong>at</strong> days of the week may my child visit? Is one better than theothers?Currently <strong>Visiting</strong> appointments are Tuesdays and Thursdaysonly.Is there an open house for prospective families?Yes. There will be an open house posted. The d<strong>at</strong>es will beposted on the website.How can I meet parents whose children presently <strong>at</strong>tend <strong>Morey</strong> so Ican get another parent's perspective?We are fortun<strong>at</strong>e <strong>at</strong> <strong>Morey</strong> to have an involved body ofparents. Our plan is to immedi<strong>at</strong>ely m<strong>at</strong>ch you and a parentvolunteer so you can dialogue with him/her about theirexperiences.Wh<strong>at</strong> should my child bring with him/her to their visiting day?Your child should bring a pencil, paper, and a book orsomething else to keep them busy in case a class they are<strong>at</strong>tending th<strong>at</strong> day is having a test.Should my child bring lunch orlunch money?Yes or your student may bring asack lunch. Except for first andlast periods, your child will beshadowing a present student inevery period, including lunch.We encourage sack lunches as itmakes it easier for your studentsince they are not used to thelunch purchasing procedure <strong>at</strong><strong>Morey</strong>.Can my child request a particularsixth grader or two to visit?Absolutely! Doing so makes theexperience much morerewarding and fun for your child.The request form asks th<strong>at</strong> youidentify who th<strong>at</strong> student(s) isand we will <strong>at</strong>tempt toaccommod<strong>at</strong>e th<strong>at</strong> request. Wecannot guarantee th<strong>at</strong> we will beable to meet your request, butwe will try hard to do so. Therequest needs to be a student inthe same grade level and in thesame program as your child isplanning to <strong>at</strong>tend next year.Are there any rules about clothingth<strong>at</strong> my child should be aware ofwhen s/he comes to shadow?Yes. While there are no uniformsor standard clothing expected ofour students, we do not allowh<strong>at</strong>s, bare midriffs, spaghettistraps, “flip-flops” or the like.Also, no gum please. Please askyour student to dressappropri<strong>at</strong>ely.
