<strong>Morey</strong> Weekly Announcements, November <strong>12</strong>-16, 20<strong>12</strong>From Principal Hawthorne<strong>Morey</strong> students are amazing leaders! This week I celebrated with 38 students whoseteachers recognized them for their leadership in living the <strong>Morey</strong> MORE values:Motivation, Organization, Respect and Empathy. I am proud of them for taking a standevery day to focus on the scholarly skills needed to be successful students, and for theircharacter and their ability to step in others’ shoes and practice kindness. Seven studentsmet with me this week to give input on the school’s Unified Improvement Plan and tovolunteer to be on the Collaborative <strong>School</strong> Committee. Students stay after school eachweek to participate in Student Council. These and other opportunities allow <strong>Morey</strong>students to learn the norms for group problem-solving and decision making. We haveleaders on sports teams and leaders in classrooms. We have eighth grade Crew Leaderswho helped with the 6 th grade “<strong>Morey</strong>-entation” and who continue to look out for sixthgraders and support them in the hallways. The grant, “The Identity Adventure” supportsartists working with students on topics related to identity and art. We are please towelcome, artist-in-residence, Heather Doyle-Maier , who will be working the nextfive days with Ms. Zablocki’s 6 th grade Graphic Novel GT Enrichment class. Welook forward to sharing students’ creativity and art with the community.First Lady Mary Louise Lee, wife of Mayor Hancock, has selected to support <strong>Morey</strong>with arts integration. Ms. Lee met with teachers and staff on Thursday to outline herplan to connect volunteer Denver artists with specific teachers to infuse the arts intolessons. We look forward to sharing more specifics in December.SeaCamp Deadline


Attention to students selling Butter Braids to help fund their SeaCamp trip: yourorders are due on TUESDAY, November 13 th to Ms. Almon!No Leaving <strong>School</strong> Grounds Before the Morning BellParents, it is our policy that students may not leave school grounds for any reasononce they are at <strong>Morey</strong>. Students have been leaving in the morning to go to 7Eleven,and this is not allowed. If students are seen leaving school grounds for any reason, theymay be marked truant, we will call home, and the student may serve a consequence.Please understand that this policy is in place to ensure the safety of your studentthroughout the day.Lost & FoundThe cold weather is coming and once again we have lots of coats, sweatshirts and othermiscellaneous items in the lost and found. Please come check if you are missinganything, the lost and found will be cleaned out and donated after school onTuesday, November 13 th .Follow UpAs a follow-up to the modified lockdown last week, teachers read the attachedannouncement to students explaining the lockdown as a safety measure. We also welcome Felicia Trujillo, who will be Ms.Zablocki’s substitute until she returns in January.Upcoming Events<strong>Morey</strong> Mathletes will compete in their first competition on Wednesday, November14 th at <strong>Morey</strong> during the school day. Students from Columbine, GALS and Whittierwill come to <strong>Morey</strong> for this round. Go <strong>Morey</strong> Mathletes!Ms. Coupas will have <strong>Morey</strong> student art work on display for the Fall Art Show onThursday, November 15 th from 5-6 pm in the cafeteria. Directly following the ArtShow, Mr. Cevallos will lead the <strong>Morey</strong> Band Concert from 6-7 pm in theauditorium. Come support <strong>Morey</strong> students at these free and creative events.
