Thursday 29 August at 3.00pmADELAIDE CONVENTION CENTREThe Occasional AddressMr Michael HeardBE, MBA, FIEAust, CPEng, FTSEFor more than 30 years, Mr Heard hasbeen engaged in the research anddevelopment, design, manufacture andexport of technology products and systemsin the manufacturing industry, and helda number of engineering, marketing,general management and company directorpositions.He served for almost two decades asManaging Director of Codan Limited, anAdelaide-based designer, manufacturerand supplier of innovative communications,metal detection, and electronic equipmentto global markets. Codan’s radiocommunications and metal detectionproducts are sold in more than 150countries, with annual sales growing to$190 million under Mr Heard’s leadership.In his roles with Codan and the ElectronicsIndustry Association, he partnered with theUniversity of South Australia on research,skills, and training endeavours of mutualinterest to help advance the state andnational economies.He has also served as a director of laboratoryservices business Amdel Limited, a memberof the <strong>Australian</strong> Space Council, and memberof the <strong>Australian</strong> National Telescope SteeringCommittee. He was a co-founder and theinaugural President of South Australia’sElectronics Industry Association, which isnow the <strong>Technology</strong> Industry Association.Currently, Mr Heard is a director of theLeaders Institute of South Australia andManufacturing Excellence Taskforce AustraliaLimited, as well as a member of SouthAustralia’s Premier’s Science and IndustryCouncil.Order of CeremonyProcessional music will be played.The audience is requested to stand forthe entrance of the Academic Procession,Council and Official Party.The <strong>Australian</strong> National Anthem will be sungby Mr Richard Chew, baritone.The Chancellor, Dr Ian Gould AM, BSc(Hons),PhD, FTSE, FAusIMM, CompIEAust, MAICD,will open the ceremony.The Vice Chancellor and President, ProfessorDavid Lloyd BSc(Hons), PhD, CChem, FRSC,will address the ceremony.Associate Professor Brenton DansieBSc(Hons), PhD, Acting Pro Vice Chancellorand Vice President: Information <strong>Technology</strong>,Engineering and the Environment, willpresent Mr Michael Heard, for the honorarydegree of Doctor of the University.The Occasional Address will be deliveredby Mr Michael Heard, Former ManagingDirector, Codan Ltd.The Chancellor, on behalf of the University,will confer awards on the candidates.The Chancellor will close the ceremony.The audience is requested to stand as theOfficial Party, Council, Academic Processionand graduates retire.Aida:Triumphant March and Ballet MusicVerdi: Performed by the CSR SymphonyOrchestra, BratislavaAdvance Australia Fair / Peter DoddsMcCormickHe is a Fellow of the Institution of EngineersAustralia, a Chartered Professional Engineer,and a Fellow of the <strong>Australian</strong> Academy ofTechnological Sciences and Engineering.
