Andres MichelenaVenezuelan artist, Andrés Michelena, has developed his career asa painter and a conceptual artist. He often pursues the subject ofreligion and spirituality in his art. This mixed-media paper work,utilizing Chinese newspaper, appropriates Pop Art techniques tocreate the image. Michelena comments on the Dalai Lama’sphilosophical view that the 1950 Chinese invasion of Tibetexpanded Buddhism throughout the world. Based on this concept,Michelena constructed the central figure of Mao withTibetan stamps to represent him with a Buddha-like hair style,giving him the status of a master.
