2ND ANNUALMOLAA AWARDSLast year, MOLAA was proud to inaugurate an annual juried art competition for <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> artists titled,MOLAA Awards. The response from the <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> artists was terrific! The competition presented, workby over one hundred thirty two artists that <strong>of</strong>fered the museum and the public an incredibly diverse range<strong>of</strong> art. The top award winners included Irene Pressner (Venezuela), Manuel Ameztoy (Argentina), Victor Chab(Argentina), and Andrés Michelena (Venezuela). Their art is now a part <strong>of</strong> the MOLAA Permanent Collection.The MOLAA Awards recognizes the artistic achievement and merit <strong>of</strong> six outstanding artists selected bya panel <strong>of</strong> distinguished judges from the field <strong>of</strong> contemporary <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> art. The invitational competitionis open to emerging and mid-career artists <strong>of</strong> <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> origin. The artists have donatedthe art to the museum in order to participate. The awards were created with the intrest to furtherencourage the international support <strong>of</strong> <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> artists. The signature event and prestigiousawards <strong>of</strong>fer the artists an opportunity for greater exposure to new audiences. It allows the art collectorand art appreciator an expanded vision <strong>of</strong> art, access to new ideas and current artistic visions prevalentwithin our global art community.The 2nd annual MOLAA Awards presents one hundred thirty emerging and mid-career artists from theSpanish/Portuguese speaking regions <strong>of</strong> Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean who havesubmitted a wide range <strong>of</strong> diverse and engaging works <strong>of</strong> art. The participating artists were invited by aninternational committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> curators.They are competing for six awards <strong>of</strong> artistic merit tobe judged by a panel <strong>of</strong> art curators and critics. The award winners will be announced by the MOLAA AwardJudges on Sunday, September 30 following the afternoon’s symposium titled, New Trends in Collecting andEvaluating Contemporary <strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>Art</strong>. The top four award winning works <strong>of</strong> art will become part <strong>of</strong>the MOLAA Permanent Collection.
