spelled their name LEAHY in America. My wife's' mother came to USA 1903, lived<br />

in Dedham with other brothers and sisters, she married Francis CONLON. Her<br />

trade). He appears on the 1861 Manchester Census and was married at Manchester<br />

Cathedral in 1861. His place of birth is merely listed as Ireland. We believe he came<br />

from Co. <strong>Galway</strong>. His family was involved with the Orangemen, so we presume he<br />

LALLY - (I am searching for any information about my 2x great grandfather, James<br />

LALLY. He was born about 1793/4 in <strong>Galway</strong> (whether the <strong>County</strong> or the City, I<br />

don't know) and was a sawyer. When Napoleon was sent to St Helena, James joined<br />

the 66th Foot and was sent to the island as part of the garrison guarding him. On<br />

Napoleon's death, the island reverted to the East India Company, and James joined the<br />

St Helena Regiment. This information was gathered at the India Office Library in<br />

London. No marriage yet found, but he and his wife Mary baptised four children on<br />

the island between 1818 and 1830 and he returned to Ireland in 1836. His children<br />

were James (1818); Thomas (my great grandfather) (1822); Jane (1828) and Helen<br />

(1830). There may have been a further child, Mary Anne. Thomas, my g.grandfather,<br />

LALLY – (My great-grandfather Patrick LALLY, son of Michael LALLY and Mary<br />

TANSEY was born at Srahloughra on the Suck River near Ahascragh in November<br />

1853. Michael and Mary had inter alia the following children: Malachi (who was born


in Ros<strong>com</strong>mon on October 25th 1843 and who married Helenora NEAL (NEIL)),<br />

John, Michael, James, William and Patrick. The two daughters were Kate who<br />

married James C MILLER and Hanorah or Nora (later MCLOUGHLIN). Patrick's<br />

grandfather and Michael's father was Malachi LALLY who had married a lady by the<br />

name of COSGROVE. I do not know her Christian name. Malachi and Miss<br />

COSGROVE had a number of children who included Peter, Thomas, James, Nancy<br />

BURNS or BEIRNE and Mary COYNE. Nancy Beirne may have married Thady<br />

BEIRNE. My GGF Patrick and his father left Ireland in 1865 and settled in Hartford.<br />

Peter stayed in Derrycahill (Ros<strong>com</strong>mon) and married Mary FALLON. Tom went to<br />

America presumably also to the Hartford area. Michael stayed in Ahascragh and was<br />

a grocer/baker by trade for some time but may also have moved to the States. His<br />

brother James is said to have also been "living a few miles away" and I am presuming<br />

that to be in Kilglass or near Ahascragh. A further brother William LALLY married<br />

Margaret JOYCE in Manhattan NY in October 1880. Any information in relation to<br />

(1867-1940). We have the total lineage (7 generations) of George F and Henry's<br />

family of eleven children. She died surrounded by family in 1934 at her second home<br />

LYNCH - (I am currently doing genealogical research on my mother's side of the<br />

family. My mother is Elizabeth (Betty) Shelton aka. LYNCH. She has told me that<br />

their family is related to the Thomas C. Lynch who signed the Declaration of<br />

Independence for South Carolina. I have been able to trace the family back to my<br />

great great great grandfather William F. LYNCH who was born in Georgia in 1790's.<br />

He married a Penina KIDWELL in Wilcox <strong>County</strong> Alabama October 30, 1828. He<br />

subsequently died in Chicot Conty Arkansas aorund 1866. Their children were Nancy,<br />

Alabama, Indiana, Penina, John and Dr. Thomas Jefferson LYNCH (my great great<br />

grandfather). I know that there was a Frances LYNCH who settled in Georgia in<br />

LYNCH - (I am searching for a family of Annie Lynch who was born in Ireland<br />

between 1840 and 1860. Rumour has it she went to relatives in Pennsylvania for her<br />

education and returned to Ireland where she married John CAIRNS. They migrated to<br />

New Zealand where they joined Annie's sister who was married to a Sergant<br />

O'MALLY of the NZ police and two LYNCH brothers. Annie Lynch and John


CAIRNS shared one living child Mary Ellen CAIRNS born 10 May either 1878 or<br />

1880 in New Zealand. The couple split after mid 1880s and bother disappeared after<br />

LYNCH - (John Athol LYNCH aka Jack LYNCH has been a mystery to my<br />

husbands family for many years. His daughter would like to know about him as he<br />

was separated from her mother before birth. John Athol was born 13 October 1909 at<br />

Gould's Country Tasmania Australia to Christopher Luke LYNCH and Evelyn May<br />

JOHNSON. Christopher's parents were Michael Lynch and Annah Rudd or Budd who<br />

married in 1861 at Longford Tasmania. Christopher's brothers were: Michael born<br />

1867, Matthew Thomas born 1862. Christopher's sisters were: Anna Catharine 1864,<br />

Elizabeth 1865, Margaret 1871, Mary Ann 1874, Emma 1881 and Jane 1878. He<br />

married Lorraine (known as Lorrie) NEWMAN of Inverell NSW Australia in 1944 at<br />

Waverley NSW he was 31 years at the time and she was 24. As mentioned on<br />

Marriage cert. Although birthdate was supposed to be in 1909?? The last traced


sighting of him was about 1974 at a funeral in Melbourne of a ? uncle Keith<br />

JOHNSON. This sighting was made by Mrs Ailthea HOWELL who's Aunty was<br />

Evelyn May Johnson. Ailthea's mother was Vera WIGNALL. John served in Navy<br />

13/12/42-05/01/1946 then in the Army 03/06/1940-07/11/1941. Not sure where<br />

John/Jack went to after that funeral in Melbourne but he could have been to Tasmania<br />

or up to Townsville Qld. He lived at Inverell NSW after his marriage for ? a short<br />
