Debbie-Rand Thrift Shoppe Gets a New Look

Board Members Attend
AFHAV Annual Meeting
The first week in October, our Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League
President, Debbie Leising, Recording Secretary Evie Zimmerman
and Trustee Marci Nowak attended the 59th Annual Meeting of
the Association of Florida Healthcare Auxiliary Volunteers (AFHAV)
in Orlando, Florida. The AFHAV has 101 member hospitals. This
year, 260 representatives from 58 hospitals attended the annual
educational conference.
The theme of this year’s conference, “Volunteers…Giving the
Priceless Gift of Time,” included 16 sessions on topics of mutual
interest to volunteer organizations, among them: Interviewing and
Orienting Volunteers, Getting the News in your Newsletter, Building
Patient Loyalty Through Service Excellence and Where are all the
Wheelchairs. Each session included a presentation on how other
auxiliaries are addressing mutual interests and concerns with time
devoted to questions and answers from the audience. At both the
opening and closing sessions, the keynote speakers focused on the
important role volunteers play in our hospitals delivering “service
excellence” to our patients and their families.

Here’s a chance to put your writing
experience or just plain love of
the written word to good use. Our
editorial committee will assign articles
on an as-needed basis a month or
two ahead of the deadline for each
issue. We also welcome new ideas for
articles you think would be of interest
to our readers.

The AFHAV is divided into five geographically based districts.
Each year, in addition to the state wide Annual Meeting, each
district holds an annual meeting and also mini-meetings with
representatives from hospitals in close proximity to the host
hospital, all for the purpose of sharing information, experience and
best practices on topics of mutual interest. Debbie-Rand Memorial
Service League is a member of the South District, which stretches
from the Florida Keys north through Martin County. D-RMSL has
hosted both district meetings and mini-meetings.
Membership in the AFHAV provides the Debbie-Rand Memorial
Service League with opportunities to learn by sharing practices with
other healthcare organizations and allows our Auxiliary to share our
experience and good practices.
The AFHAV reinforces the reputation that Boca Raton Regional
Hospital is at the forefront of Florida healthcare organizations.
