was very impressed with the Student
Managed Farm concept.
• The School of Agricultural and
Environmental Sciences worked with
the Alberta Association of Colleges
and Technical Institutes on six
applied research projects.
• Applied research projects related to
corn silage and corn grazing began
with industry partner Pioneer.
• It was the final year of a three year
applied research project on lamb
carcass quality. A meat packing plant,
producer groups, and government
were involved in the project that
generated research data that is of
interest to people throughout Canada.
• A small contingent of agricultural
sciences staff toured Southeast
Community College in Nebraska.
Ideas and concepts on agricultural
programming were discussed as was
the possibility of an exchange.
Sustainability
Lakeland College will act as a steward
for the Government of Alberta’s
investment.
• A study prepared by CCbenefits and
released by the Alberta Association
of Colleges and Technical Institutes
reported that Lakeland generates
about $23.1 million in regional
income annually due to operations
and capital spending. In addition,
out-of-region students spend $32.4
million while attending Lakeland,
generating roughly $20.8 million in
regional income. The east central
Alberta economy annually receives
about $165 million in income due
to the past and present efforts of
Lakeland. In fact, Lakeland returns
$3.40 for every dollar of taxpayer
financial support.
• All costs for continuing education
programming are covered through
tuition revenues.
