MANDATE
Lakeland College is a board-governed
public college operating under
authority of the Post-secondary
Learning Act of Alberta. The College
has campuses in Lloydminster and
Vermilion and serves communities in
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The College awards certificates,
diplomas, applied degrees, and
baccalaureate degrees designed
to meet the needs of both learners
and the communities served by the
College. Lakeland College programs
offer learning opportunities in
academic upgrading, agriculture
and the environment, business, fire
and public safety, health and human
services, tourism, apprenticeship and
technology, and university transfer.
Lakeland offers continuing education
credit and non-credit programs and
courses as an extension of mandated
programs, performing arts courses
and individual instruction through the
Conservatory of Music and Drama, and
customized workforce development
training for business and industry in
Alberta, Canada and internationally.
Through a unique partnership
agreement between the Alberta
and Saskatchewan governments,
Lakeland College provides training
and educational opportunities for
Saskatchewan residents. Adult
basic education and career training
are provided under an Alberta/
Saskatchewan Memorandum of
Agreement.
The fire emergency training centre
(fire etc.) offers integrated emergency
response training at the provincial,
national, and international levels,
including firefighter, disaster
management, risk management, loss
prevention, and emergency services
training. Through a partnership
agreement, fire etc. administers
accreditation for municipal fire
service training in the Province of
Alberta, on behalf of the Alberta Fire
Commissioner.
Lakeland College demonstrates its
commitment to partnerships by
working cooperatively with community
organizations, business and industry,
and other educational institutions.
The College promotes community
economic development by providing
workforce training and development,
and conducting or sponsoring applied
research. The College actively pursues
applied research and innovation
activities that complement teaching
and learning, and advance innovationbased
rural community economic
development. The focus of applied
research is primarily in the agriculture,
environment, petroleum, emergency
services, and manufacturing sectors.
The College extends its services not
only to our learners, but also to the
communities served. Our facilities are
both specialized and unique, including
the Strathcona County Learning Centre,
two community theatres, a studentmanaged
farm, and a comprehensive
fire school. The residential campuses
in Vermilion and Lloydminster offer
environments that help learners realize
their individual potential by providing
a safe, people-centered learning
environment. The College supports
the cultural fabric of the communities
served by facilitating college athletics,
offering recreation fitness and leisure
activities, providing conference and
daycare services, and promoting the
performing arts.
