STAY TUNED Practo now lets you find diagnostic centres nearby Practo, a health app that helps find doctors, expanded its offering by enabling consumers to find the closest diagnostic centres. The Bengaluru-based company said the launch is part of Practo's strategy to become the single health destination for all consumers across curative, preventive, fitness and wellness segments. The app will allow consumers to search by nature of medical tests instead of laboratory names, to check laboratory accreditation, filter results by location, home pickup, online reports and compare prices of services being offered by various diagnostic centres. This new feature will show information on 4,000 labs across eight cities, including the chains like Thyrocare, Suburban Diagnostics, SRL Labs, Metropolis and others. The eight cities where the feature is available are Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, and Trivandrum. The company will soon expand to 35 cities in India and Practo's international markets in the coming months. Truecaller Launched Truemessenger -- Spam Blocking SMS app for Android Truecaller launched Truemessenger, a new SMS replacement app for Android smartphones. It comes with an automated spam filter powered by 150 million Truecaller community members worldwide, according to the company. Truemessenger is available exclusively in India, with plans to launch globally in the near future. Basically, Truemessenger takes a phone number and using the 150 million members from the Truecaller community it identifies the actual name behind the number. Using a very simple interface, the user can quickly mark a number as spam, and move it to the spam folder so that it doesn’t bother you with unwanted SMSes in future. Truemessenger Features: • The ability to put a name to a number, even for contacts outside your phonebook • The resources to detect, block, and report spam alongside other Truecaller members to build a smarter community • The option to avoid messages from unwanted numbers and contacts • A clean Inbox where spam messages are magically sent to a separate folder • The ability to add advanced filtering options by creating customized filters with known spam keywords or number series (area codes or country codes) Flipkart App will let you upload an Image to Find Similar Fashion Products Flipkart has introduced “Image Search” feature on its mobile app to gain advantage over its rivals. This feature lets you upload an image of the apparel you are looking for and find visually similar products on the Flipkart app. It has been designed especially for the fashion category products. Flipkart adds that the search function will look for products with the same colour, pattern, or style. Another use of the feature will be to find visually similar products to a product already listed on Flipkart. The feature is being developed especially for the app, since 75 percent of Flipkart users access it via their smartphones, the company said. “Discovering a fashion product online varies from user to user and is more complex as compared to other categories. A lot of fashion purchase decisions are influenced by similar products seen by users. The image search feature provides a way to find similar products on Flipkart as well as reduces the search/ browsing time, making the overall product discovery and shopping experience simple.” said Flipkart's Chief Product Officer Punit Soni in a press statement. 24 July 2015
Opera Max - Data Management app for Android launched in India Opera Software's Opera Max - Data Management application is now available for Android users in India and Bangladesh. Opera Max is a data management & data saving app that saves mobile data usage by up to 50 %. Save data by compressing videos, photos, media on your favorite apps and websites - without any noticeable loss of quality. As per the company, the app can strip a 10MB video to as low as 3MB saving the Internet data used by the device. The compressed size would also result in a reduction in buffering of videos. Besides minimizing data usage, it also gives users real-time daily and monthly data-usage statistics. Additionally, tracking Internet use app-by-app and blocking them is also possible with Opera Max. “BitTorrent Shoot” app lets you easily Share Files using QR Codes BitTorrent has introduced a new app that lets you easily share files such as images or large videos with other mobile devices via QR code scanning. Designed to allow fast exchange between many different mobile device platforms, BitTorrent Shoot is available to download via Google Play, App Store and Windows Phone Store. Shoot is powered by BitTorrent Sync’s peer-to-peer technology, so large items are no problem. Files move directly between two devices without going through the cloud, hence your data remains completely private. To send pictures, launch the app, select the images you want to share and the app will generate a QR code. Receivers can scan that QR Code to download the images. With the BitTorrent Shoot app, you will get your first three sends free. After that, you have to shell out $2 for unlimited sending. The app listing clarifies you can receive items for free. STAY TUNED Google Play Prepaid Vouchers now available in India Google has introduced Google Play prepaid vouchers for the Indian market. The vouchers can be used to purchase digital content such as apps, games, inapp purchases, and eBooks, apart from rent or buy movies on the Google Play store. The current denominations include three options: Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 1,500. The company has announced that over the coming weeks prepaid vouchers will be available at select Vijay Sales and Spice Hotspot stores in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Jaipur. WhatsApp Voice Calling now available for Windows Phone WhatsApp updated its Windows Phone app by adding the voice calling feature that was rolled out to all Android, BlackBerry, and iOS users' months ago. Windows Phone 8+ users can make voice calls over mobile data or Wi-Fi - also called VoIP or voice over Internet protocol. The update also brings new features such as sending audio files (which is currently available on Windows Phone 8.1) apart from the VoIP-based voice calling feature.
