Hand Protection
The standard which is applicable to gloves is AS2161:1998
and has been developed based on the European Standards
to ensure improved protection in the workplace.
Glove Selection
• Always select gloves that are the correct size. If they are
too small they may tear and be uncomfortable, if they are
too large this may interfere with dexterity.
• Select the correct style of glove for the application required.
For example there may be an exposure to chemicals,
reference should be made to the relevant MSDS to aid
selection and ensure adequate protection.
Glove Inspection
• Before use, all gloves should be inspected for any
signs of degradation (swelling, cracking, shrinking or
discolouration) and any signs of holes or puncture. A
damaged glove should immediately be removed from
service to maintain the full protection intended.
• Change gloves frequently, especially thinner disposable
gloves that have been exposed to chemicals. If a glove
becomes contaminated it should be removed and discarded
as soon as possible.
