Respiratory<br />
Making a Decision<br />
Choosing respiratory protection involves many different issues<br />
and does require some background knowledge. In general a<br />
workplace assessment would need to be carried out for the<br />
correct equipment to be chosen.<br />
When carrying out the assessment the following would need to<br />
be taken into consideration:<br />
• Knowledge of the airborne contaminants in the workplace.<br />
• Knowledge of respiratory devices including correct storage<br />
methods for filters and masks, respirator cleaning, respirator<br />
maintenance and assessment of fi t.<br />
• Knowledge of the effects of facial hair on the seal<br />
• Knowledge sufficient to identify a workplace hazard such as<br />
gas, dust or fumes<br />
• Knowledge of the Education process within the workplace,<br />
including written respiratory policy<br />
It is essential to be understood that any paint or chemical<br />
formulation involving the release of free iso-cyanate during the<br />
reaction process always requires supplied air.<br />
3 Ratings<br />
P1 – This rating is designed for the collection of solids with an<br />
aerodynamic diameter of >1 Micron and a collection co effi cient<br />
of 80% (20% will pass through).<br />
P2 – This rating is designed for the collection of solids down to<br />
0.3 Microns and a collection coeffi cient of 94% (6% will pass<br />
through).<br />
P3 – This rating is designed for the collection of solids
